Frequently asked questions about accounting in Paraguay

What is the RUC and who needs one?

The RUC (Único Contribuyente Registry) is issued by the DNIT and is mandatory for any company or professional invoicing in Paraguay. It's the first step when setting up a company, along with the municipal business license.

How often are VAT returns filed?

Monthly, through the Marangatú system. The deadline depends on the last digit of the RUC and falls between the 7th and 25th of each month, per DNIT's Perpetual Filing Calendar.

Is electronic invoicing (SIFEN) mandatory?

The DNIT has been rolling out SIFEN in taxpayer groups, with staggered schedules by company size and sector. State suppliers are already required to use it. As part of onboarding, we check which group and deadline applies to you.

What are the main taxes a company pays?

Corporate income tax (IRE) and VAT, both at a general 10% rate. Paraguay has no wealth tax or capital gains tax as a general rule.
